Someone used the term "fingernail catch" to describe the slightest deviation between to adjacent boards... Even with cauls I have found it difficult to entirely...

Another vote for enjoying using poplar. I have found it to be very pretty (left clear or tinted), it easy to work with, and the pricing is attractive.

I'm at a stage of the learning curve...

If I'm understanding correctly... In the case of the OP's design, the metal sleeve fits snugly inside the wooden 'jacket'... Without any adhesive at all, suction will want to keep those parts...

I did exactly the same as Glenn and it's worked great.

I had considered the "remove the jointer fence when needed" route but felt that a key value of having stationary tools setup in a workflow...

If it's the same jointer as before, then this height has not changed... You once before raised the top surface of the table saw to be above that jointer... and now you're raising a new table saw top...
