I totally agree with Alan on this. I own a Triton and I'm very dissappointed in the optics.
Best of luck.

See if you can find a duplicator first, then find a lathe that is compatible. Trying to reproduce a given profile on 4 pieces of wood can prove to be VERY STRESSFUL.
Don't be surprised if you...
The only time I've had this problem is when I only left the bowl in the DNA for 24 hours. (esp. with larger bowls) - Try soaking it for several days and see if that helps.
Leo,
I'm a huge fan. Love the form. Excellent job!
Keep 'em coming.
Reed is right, Bill Grumbine specifically says not to use drywall screws in his video. He suggests SPAX screws which I use exclusively for tasks like this.
Good luck
Go to your local Feed Store and look for something like a horse feed bowl. I found one that has angled sides and fits a 16" bowl quite nicely.
While finish-turning an NE bowl, if some of the bark breaks off, what do youi do? Do you leave it? Break off the rest of the bark? Try to taper the break? Make it a normal flat bowl?
Nice job! It keeps the profile of the stopper short, which is good.
I hope I can do something like that someday.
Well done!
On a table of 100 pens from 20 different types of wood, I will always sell out of every single Cocobolo pen.
For bowls, cherry is very rewarding.
Wonderful.
I have not ordered from him but almost every post indicates a non-response from his email address. Maybe it is listed incorrectly on the web site. If you get him on the phone, ask him if the email...
Spectacular finish and Nice grain.
It must have been challenging to hollow out the "shoulders" of that form but it works nicely.
Well done! What was it like to work with the Aspen?
So it's starting to get a little chilly up her in New England and I have two questions about the cold weather.
Any concerns letting logs sealed with Anchorseal stay out in freezing temps?
How...
As usual, everyone has some very helpful and valuable insight. Thanks so much for sharing your perspectives here!
You all ROCK!
I've got the Oneway Wolverine Grinding Jig and the Vari-Grind Jig to sharpen my bowl gouges. I find that during the sharpening process, the gouge sometimes slides off the sharpening stone,...
I've seen some bowls that are oval shaped (view from the top) and someone told me they were turned green and let warp on purpose.
Can someone tell me what the process is to accomplish that without...
For those of you waiting for Thompson tools, he just updated his site this weekend. Lots of the tools are now available. Since I ordered mine already, the rest of you can fight over the leftovers....
for making bowls from trees taken down in New England?
I can get my hands on Maple, Cherry, Apple, Ash, American Elm. If I'm lucky, I can get some Walnut. Any suggestions for other types of...
This is a great tutorial.
2 questions:
1) Do you know of any web sites that provide more options for designs like this?
2) Any thoughts on doing a tutorial like this on fitting half-round...
Thanks Leo! This is what I'm looking for.
I've already got both of Bill Grumbine's videos and have almost commited them to memory. They are awesome but don't answer the question about cutting logs...
Does anyone know of a tutorial or series of diagrams that can help me figure out how to take a green log and cut it for use on hollow forms, boxes or spindle work?
Thanks!
If you take a log, cut it in half, then prep it to turn as a bowl by cutting a circle on your band saw, that gets you a decent piece to start with but not all of us have the top-of-the-line tools to...
A lot depends on were you are selling them? I've sold at a number of craft fairs where people are looking to spend $20 or less on cheap gifts. For those I've done well with slimline pens. Be...
