Will the alcohol effect the waterbase material ? Or should you just rinse it out with water before spraying waterbase?

I am about ready to purchase a new 38" Woodmaster Drum sander. Can anyone tell me what grits seem to work best on these larger drum sanders? I am thinking 3 different grits should be enough?
