Oh my. I had no idea. What a loss. I owned his sharpening dvd's which were my foundation. I respect him greatly.
RIP.
I disagree that a narrow blade is the issue. If properly setup, the narrow blade can work in a piece that thin.
What are the specs on the blade? I found the stock blade on the 2 Grizzly bandsaws...
I have a neighbor who wanted to repaint his patio table. As he sanded it, he decided he liked the partially stripped look. Is there a top coat I can counsel him to put on top to give it protection...
Wood Turners Wonders
They make 3 double-sided discs (I have them all)
80/150, 360/600, 800/1200.
One could argue that if you finish on stones, you really only need the lowest one.
The 360...
I can tell you that in my warehouse we had a situation with a 5 gallon bucket had a smidge of oil left at the bottom. Another 5 gallon bucket was loosely stacked on top. This was sometime in the...
A rasp is nice for shaping when a plane or spokeshave won’t fit or can’t handle the grain.
Floats are used more by plane makers although some people use them (or a rasp) to tweak a joint as a...
Roger is experienced and normally I wouldn’t challenge, but I personally wouldn’t throw even gloves or mixing cups in an enclosed trash. I have had a warehouse fire start from a drying oil.

Your scratches can be from a couple things. Sometimes the scratches from the lower grits aren’t removed properly and then show up only when the surface starts to build a sheen. Sometimes once a...
Bringing the tailstock live center up to a faceplate is a fine technique for centering the the turning as you reverse it.
However, the taper of the live center only mates to the rim of the...
I would contact Pete Terbovitch @ Horizon Wood Products. He's in PA, though. What you should ask for is if he has pieces that are partially dried or haven't gone into kiln yet. I've been able to...
While not on topic, I will add that for me that the two reasons I prefer cbn over white wheels are that the wheel diameter does not change and that they tend to run more true which means they never...
If you really think this not a dangerous idea, I would look at ash. Straight grained ash. It’s light and strong. That’s why it’s used for guitar necks and baseball bats.
However, if you...
Isn't "weed pot" redundant? ;)
Nice work. I'm partial to the last one. Feels sculpted from a block
Wood Turners Wonders. Not cheap, but like you, I prefer the flat surface for plane blade grinding. I also work with a drawknife and find sharpening on the ws disc easier than other methods.
Mike. Btw, they make cbn discs for the worksharp. Even better than the diamond lap discs .
Is your product oil based? The 8000cv is waterbased. So I am not sure the two products share much in actual practice.
Months. Are you using the same product?
Yes Mark. In fact it did go away. I tried using a hair dryer at first and that did not work. Time worked. It looks perfect now.
Derek, I think you just spoiled LV's April Fool's Day item for 2023!!!
They could have offered a protective, replaceable veneer inserts and different sizes for each plane. Still better, there...
Resting them on a bench I dont care if the bench gets scratched. Resting them on any other surface that might damage the blade or be damaged by it, I use common sense.
I had that DW735 for several years. My advice:
Get an aftermarket $20 single stage bag and run a short section of 4" pipe from the exit port to it, so the bag is just out of the way of the feed...
Luke’s statement to think like a hand tool worker is rich.
The shooting board helps you sneak up on the length. It’s not for the guy using a table saw to make 30 pieces of identical length. In...
You can apply multiple coats of blo in a day as long as the previous coat isn’t tacky. Always wipe completely off (sure you already knew that).
I shellac my handles. Not so much as to build a ...
I am also in a funk. As a hobbyist, how many tables, bowls, guitars, cutting boards, etc can one make? It's just the same old stuff over and over again. The way to make it fresh is to pick a...
