    I Share Your Satisfaction

    Robert:

I, too, made Lonnie Bird's desk. I'd gone to Colonial Williamsburg's Working Wood in the 18th Century the year they did desks and came back and tried to copy the one Jeff Hadley made. Even...

  3. Clarkson's book

Philip Lowe of Beverly MA has a video (through Finewoodworking) that I used in learning how to carve the B & C's for the dining chairs I made. I am not holding them up as examples, but Lowe's book...

    How about Round?

A round table some 40" diameter with leaves might be a good bet. While not a mission expert (not from Houston) I believe I've seen a lot of round pedestal tables that would blend in with Mission. Of...

  9. My Experience

Obviously policies may vary, but after Katrina we had 3 evergreens that while not blown over were leaning at a big angle. The insurance co. did pay for removal on basis they were part of landscaping.

    I am Back

Though it may have not been earthshaking to the creek, I have not visited in over a month.

First the closing up of my shop took my interest away from talking about woodworking.

    Then my...

On behalf of my neighbors in New Orleans let me say a heart felt "thank you".
In our city of about 15000 we have built over 80 Habitat houses since Katrina - most of them for storm victims. If you...

Don't know much about body work

    Norm and Woodsmith

I considered making some a few years ago. I debated between NYW and Woodsmith. I decided on Woodsmith because they are unitized. That is, one unit sits on another. I think they also showed how to...

    Arkansas Pine

I've also used poplar but for my better pieces I like the looks and stability of the pine. The local lumber yard usually has a good supply of nice boards.

There has been a lot of good advice Above, but:

It is easy to get a run no matter how careful you are. At least it is for me. If and when I find one I can often shave it off very neatly with a cabinet scraper. The run being thicker than the...
