I would pry the collet in the slot, up near the bit in the chamfered area.

That's the beauty of it. No more cranking and spinning wheels all day to move the jaw, just slide it and tighten. Super quick, and Super strong.

I have their wagon vise and couldn't be happier with it.

Hovarter makes a traditional looking face vise that could just as easily be mounted on the end of your bench.

Apologies for the late response. I felt it was fairly simple and straight forward to install. Just mill the required dimensions and install.

Thank you for the recommendation Jim, I had looked at Narex. I think Narex makes a fine enough tool, especially for how little I might actually end up using a mortise chisel. That in the end though...

I absolutely love my Hovarter wagon vise. It locks and unlocks (tightens and loosens) in under a quarter turn of the handle. Once loose, you just slide the vise/block to where you want...

It 'looks' like white oak, but based on the flake length in the first pic, and open pores in the second pic, it is NOT white oak.

Without seeing it in person, I'll vote red oak, or ash.

Our favorite pocket screws are Castle, followed by McFeely's, followed by Kreg.

Bob, I.D. of the bushings is 1-1/8". Spherical washers are nice for clamping uneven pieces in the vise. You're right, most do go with 3/4", I just prefer the 1", it seems sized more appropriately...
