I just had a thought that I should turn a piece to fit over the live center. Or maybe better, a tennis ball slit to fit. It should be able to fit several sizes of live...

I don't know if Michael's 108" rail is one piece. I have the old EZ rails that are two piece and they fit together well enough that it works like a single piece.

I started using StewMac scrapers based on John's posts. I find them to be very useful especially when trying to get a nice flat bottom inside a bowl. A carving stand makes them even more useful.

If you happen to know of a shop that makes Formica laminate tops, they may have old solid carbide flush trim bits. I don't think they were designed to be sharpened - we never did anyway. They aren't...

The ones I'm seeing online don't look to have a burr at all.

Kyle, I agree that the carbide can be useful but is generally inferior. I have two and find I'm using them less and less.

    NRS burr

Most everybody I read uses negative rake scrapers with a burr. Some just use the burr off the grinder but others hone that off and make a new burr.

Now I'm seeing carbide tips ground in NGR...

    Thanks Randy.

I ordered the wheel, machined flat washers and self aligning washers on Friday. Things are starting to warm up here and the trees are budding. Smells like shop weather.

Interesting. I must have seen someone somewhere do this because somehow I picked up this method. I also try to tighten just enough out of a concern that I could crack a recess in expansion mode.

    Next CBN suggestion

I have a 180 grit CBN wheel and have decided to add a higher grit to the grinder. Can I jump all the way to 600 grit or will I be frustrated with refining the coarser 180 grit scratches?

    Thanks,...
