Thanks for the info,Johnny. I live down in South Florida, but I get up to my sister's in Clermont once in a while. It seems a trip over to visit Mr. Hughes might be worthwhile.

Thanks Jim, I'll do that. It wasn't a thin kerf blade and I routinely use a blade stiffener. This hasn't happened before and I was worried it was something serious.
Well, I got it off. What was happening was that when I turned the arbor nut the arbor was turning with it and the blade was just spinning on the arbor. I sprayed some WD40 on the threads and the nut,...
Do any of you folks know how I would go about repairing my table saw. When I try to remove the arbor nut the whole arbor spins. Can't get the blade off.
Steven,
Looks like mahogany to me. I got some logs out of a WinnDixie parking lot last year after Wilma. The wood looks the same, the bark looks the same, but I don't exactly recall what the leaves...
I voted no. There is no way I could keep a project hidden from my wife, unless I only worked on it when she wasn't home and it was small enough to stash away somewhere.
Whenever I'm out in the...
I just turned a pen out of a Magnolia limb trimmed from a friend's tree. Very white, Kinda bland really.
My 12 inch Craftsman just isn't making the grade any more. I'm gonna get a bigger saw, but I'm trying to decide between two 18 inchers. Woodcraft has a Jet 1 1/2 hp on closeout for $999. They are...
This guy's name is Boo. He's afraid of everything. He's a 6 month old keeshond. We had a female keeshond previously and she loved the water, jumped in our canal at all the most inopportune times. We...
Hey Bob,
How old is your daughter? My 9 year old and I took a pen turning class together at Woodcraft and she loved it. The guys at woodcraft didn't charge me to bring her. She turns out some...
Nice job, Bruce. Makes me think you should find more ways to get increase your stress level. It's good for the creative flow!
Bruce,
The maple was my favorite also. I gave it to my SIL. They have maple cabinets in their kitchen and she told me how nice it would look in there.
I gotta get another piece of that stuff for...
John,
Acetone and a toothbrush, reluctantly. I had to reapply the finish.
First off thanks gentlemen for your advice.
Here's the end result and a couple of other recent projects.
The second is purple heart finshed with wipe on poly.
The third is maple burl with...
Buffed the bowl with the tripoli then scrubbed it with a toothbrush dipped in acetone. This seems to have cleaned off most of the debris. I put on another coat of Waterlox. We'll see how it looks...
Compressed air didn't work. I'll try acetone next. Thanks for the compliments on the bowl, it really is a nice piece of wood.
Thanks John, I' ll try that. Maybe I can do some cleaning on myself while I'm at it. This is only the second time I've used my new Beall system so its still a learning experience. Let's review....No...
Yeah Jim, I used the diamond paste. Should I start over but skip the diamond paste?
Paint thinner didn't work either.
Microwave didn't work.
I don't know Bruce. Maybe I'll microwave it or leave it out in the sun tomorrow
I turned a Myrtle Burl bowl for my neighbor. After buffing it out with the Beall system the little burly type imperfections have wax stuck in them. I tried using a toothbrush to try to clean it out...
Packard Woodworks has the silicone stoppers. $7.50 for a package of 10 including the dowels.
Great job, Don! What an improvement.
I saw that metal spinning episode and I also recently watched a New Yankee Workshop where Norm built a flagpole with a metal ball on the top. He went to a metal worker to have him spin the ball in...
