Beautiful!
A few weeks ago I posted about a Oneway Mastercut gouge that inexplicably broke in two. I sent the gouge to Oneway for them to see and I immediately got a call from them saying they would replace...
I'll add pix of both ends tonight. Maybe an inch or inch and a half over the rest. I wasn't very deep into it. Hadn't even made the first finishing cut on the edge yet.
I've been turning a long time and never had a tool snap in two before. I was hollowing a spalted maple NE bowl and had only gotten a couple of inches into it when my gouge snapped. As you can see...
This may be a little off topic, but I recently had a pacemaker/defibrillator installed to correct some irregular heartbeat issues. I wondered if any of you have one and if it has caused you any...
Carol,
I'll tell you what I did. I screwed a tennis ball to the end of a 3/4" dowel and put velcro on that. Worked fine for sanding my hollow forms, but the dog is still wondering where her ball...
David Ellsworth recommended to us in a class that we use #14, 1inch sheet metal screws. I've been using them for several years with no problems.
Great site. Thanks Bill.
Sascha,
I love seeing your work. Very inspiring.
Outstanding work! And congrats on the new Stubby. Maybe someday.........
OOPS. Didn't realize it didn't attach. This might help.
Carole,
Here's what I came up with. I like to be able to move it around and get it out of the way when I'm not using it so I put it on casters.
Dennis,
Thanks, you are too kind.
Steve,
I start out with a 3" faceplate on the side I want to be the top. I shape and sand the bottom and leave a tenon. I then reverse it using a 4 jaw chuck...
Jim and Gary,
Sorry about the misleading title. I called it that because it sits on its feet and not its bottom. Rest assured I have plenty of the "other" kind of bottomless bowls.
Glenn,
Yep,...
Bad picture. I'll try again.
Keith,
Sorry for the lack of information. The bowl is figured maple and is 8" square. It does rest on its four corners. For the finish I sanded it to 600 grit and then Beall buffed it. Here is a...
I tried something a little different for me this weekend. Take a look and see what you think. First time for a picture. I hope it worked. Thanks for looking.
John,
I use #14 x 1" sheet metal screws. They were recommended at a class I took at Arrowmont. They have worked well for me for years. And glue your waste block directly to your work piece. Make...
Ken,
Where can I send a cash donation?
Steve
Sounds like a real good cause. I'd take some.
Chris,
I have two of them. One is HSS and one the Crown PM. I use them for just about everything, from hollowing to shear cutting. You might want to consider getting the sharpening jig with it...
Scott,
I took David's week long class at Arrowmont. Now his gouge is about the only tool I use. You'll really like learning from and getting to know him.
Betsy,
In addition to the respiratory problems cocobolo can cause allergic reactions on your skin. It causes red, very itchy spots on my hands that get worse everytime I use it. Be careful
Truly impressive, Mr. Peacock!
