This is a Stanley Bedrock No.3 with flat sides. It seems to be a Type 9 (1931 - 1932). Except for a few small divots on the sole, the plane is in good condition. I don’t see any cracks or splits...

At least for the shorter versions, a rifle case might work well for transporting them. Some such cases have squared ends and don’t look like traditional gun cases.

I would not try striking any part of the spindle or collet. I think grabbing the lip with soft jaw pliers and twisting might get it started. The collet is tapered so if you get it started it should...
