Excellent idea. I think I have one of those I can "borrow" from another jig. :)
I'm working on a project where I'm making a lot of wooden hex bolts. The head of each bolt would be a hexagon 3/4" thick and 2" between flat sides. I'm looking for ideas on how to make a jig to cut...
Very cool! :D
Has anyone here made one of these before? I imagine finding the right mouse to gut would be half the trouble...
I have a Gramercy one, and love it. Inexpensive compared to most others, and works very well.
The only other reason I can think of for the "standard" grain orientation is it may have made it easier to scoop out a contoured seat.
Thanks Jamie! That's an excellent idea and visual... just what I was looking for!
I'm thinking I'll make the prototype with the visible gap and see how I feel about it. While the notches would...
I have a question that deals with wood movement...
The love of my life would like vaguely mission styled dining chairs. This is a design she likes: ...
I have heard that advice before, but why is that? So when it moves, the width of the sole will tend to go convex instead of concave and not rock side to side?
Thanks all for the replies... I think I found the stuff I need. Ordered some of this:

Should be good for strops also.
Add me to the list of confused gmail users. :) I ended up adding "noreply@sawmillcreek.org" as a contact... hopefully that keeps it from going to spam.
The tow truck in the attached picture was my first project. I was 7 or 8 years old. Used a coping saw, nails, and hammer. My dad helped me bend a wire coat hanger to make the knob for the tow hook,...
Mods - please move this post to the General forum. Thanks!
I've read in multiple places that covering wooden vise faces with leather greatly improves the grip. So I decided to try it out. Two local craft/fabric stores - nada. Searching the internet for a...
The way I'd look at pricing: Why buy a Festool sander when the Harbor Freight one will also sand? :)
My entire house has original hardwood flooring. When we bought it, it was all carpet on top... except for the kitchen where they put some kind of pergo wood flooring on top. Seriously, it's...
I love it! At some point, I'd like to make a new sealed box for my 15" Dayton Quattro along these lines. The problem is that sub isn't supposed to be mounted downfiring, so it could get tricky.
I read the food coloring method also... I'll have to check my books at home, I know it's in one of the toy building ones. I imagine it would be a lot like applying a regular water based dye. The...
You might want to check out the "new fangled workbench". It has a movable top with pipe clamps built in. From your description, it sounds like it would fit your needs well. There are plans and tons...
First, I'd like to bump this thread, because it is great. :D
Second, where are you guys buying the brass bar stock and u-channel?
THank you everybody for the tips. :) At this point, I'm leaning toward the japan woodworker planes for the rounds. They have a nice looking (simple) plough plane too. I think I'll start with...
I know they exist... why can't I find them? I'm looking for plane/neanderthal replacements for:
roundovers
dados
rail/stile (probably use a rabbet/dado?)
ogee
etc, etc..
Other...
Angie - what size PVC are you using that fits perfectly to the stock center ring?
I'm surprised this phenomenon isn't more common. :D
I believe the motor is fan cooled, which explains the airflow that you are feeling there. As for the clicking, I had the same sound... thought it was weird, but everything worked OK, so I forgot...
