That's actually not a bad idea. If I bring the seat back a little bit, move the arm rest a bit lower and offer it for right and left handed players it could be a nice guitar playing chair.
  4. Finally finished it. A different kind of chair.

I finally had some time to laminate the back rest and finish it after almost 5 months. It's a chair I designed specifically to relax in. You sit in it, lean back, you put your right arm on the rest...

That's a bevel. It's what was specified so that's how I had to make it.

Me too. I don't get to use it in the furniture I make but it's so nice to work with. And I love how it smells.

Has anyone else used Jindaiko chisels? If you haven't I highly recommend them. They're outstanding.

I used to do it a lot in the past.

You can make the box as big or as small as you like.

Ash is very nice for steam bending.

You can't see it in this photo but I placed two 15mm pieces on the back (I think it was 15mm). The arm rests are attached to them with a mortise and tenon joint.

Most of you are probably wondering...

It's a very comfortable chair and it still gets used a lot as far as I know.

I knew I still had a photo somewhere of the footrest that I made a few weeks later. Also made from steam bent Ash.

I've seen a boat interior my friend made from Mahogany and on a boat show as well. As I understand it it's not really used any more because it's seen as old fashioned. He told me the trend in recent...
  14. Two more pieces to end the day with. Made these a long time ago.

I found these 2 old photos of a chair and table I made about 10 years ago. The chair is made with steam bent Ash. The table is also made from Ash.

You are correct, it's all made from Teak. You wouldn't want anything else for the exterior of a boat.

Some items for a classic boat.

I really enjoyed the work on a boat I did a while ago so I told my friend I'm willing to take on more if I have the time. I did and this is what I made, these pieces are for the same boat. Three...

The seat could have been a bit wider at the back but it's still comfortable enough. I will probably make another seat with the same basic shape and replace this one when I have the time.

I always have some left over pieces of wood lying around so instead of throwing it away I make things like this chair with it. I then give it away so someone in my family or one of my friends.

    Another chair.

It's a mix of Ash, Cherry and Oak with some sapwood here and there.

So the Atoma is a tiny bit concave, that means any stone you flatten with it will be a tiny but convex. That's absolutely no problem. Stop overthinking this and just use the damn thing.

Believe it or not but a slightly convex stone makes it easier to keep your tools flat. A friend machined 2 aluminium plates for my Atoma 600 and 1200 to be slightly convex.

The bare metal looks too shiny and I don't think they used those plastic blade protectors in the 60's. I highly doubt these are from that time.

I simple mentioned their finding. Nowhere did I say that's how I sharpen.

@Brian: This is how I sharpen. This also creates a lot of surface area to help keep the tool stable.
