I had the exact same thing happen with a fly cutter. I used the spanner wrench that came with the keyless chuck and a parallel jaw bar clamp to hold the body of the chuck.

Anybody try a Forrest (or similar) dampener/stiffener? Forrest claims theirs are ground flat within .001".
Ensure the calipers are square and not on a slight diagonal. They also need to be at the same depth in the cut or bit run out will affect the width measured.
