Alan,
Nice work!!
Since I will have a taper on the legs.... I don't think 1/8" strips would work :-(

Thanks Mike.... Have you done this before????
Yes, they are square tapered legs.
YES... I was thinking about book matching... I think it could look quite nice.
So it's a new year & my wife wants me to build her a special table.
The overall design will be that of shaker hall table.... with tapered legs.
No sweat thus far :)
Now comes the tricky...
YES! This is from Wood.... I didn't change a thing....

Thanks to all for the kind comments....
Now I have to get to work & build another one... for my church auction...
I know... I should have built them together....
I started out that way.......
David,
Thanks for the tip on the battens... I drilled a large hole (5/8" dia) under the screws about half-way thru the battens to accommodate wood movement.

Tom,
The plan is from Wood Magazine. Here is a link to the plans:

I just finished this Amish blanket chest for my son's school auction. It sold for $1,700:D
Details about the project:
All solid cherry construction
I did use "frame & rail" construction,...
Cody,
I considered building some file cabinets, but in the end, I just bought a nice steel file cabinet & wrapped it in wood.
Here is a link to the project.. see the third pic......
Matt,
Nice job!!!!
Don't you just love the Kreg Table???
It really makes assembly quite easy and enjoyable....
The only "problem" I have is with longer pieces... then I just clamp on...
I stand on my feet:D:D:D:D
Sorry about that....
I think the most important thing is where NOT to stand... and that is behind the work piece (to avoid potential kick back injuries)

I know this will start a war:D:D:D:D but...
I had a RAS for many years and always pushed the saw through the cut. (BTW-if you do push.... you can set the fence back further and get about 2-3"...
Leo....
WOW!
Awesome work!

Joe,
The lights are just the standard halogen lights (Menard's ~$5 each).
The interior lights are recessed (I think I drilled 1.5" hole)
The indirect lights are just mounted to the top.
...
Aaron,
Thanks! I have some unbelievable (very white) birds-eye maple veneer (14" wide and 8ft long  with lots of quilting) ... your thoughts??

I'm building a couple of blanket chests for 2 charity auctions and need your help....PLEASE:D:D:D:D
I usually use cherry, maple & walnut (never used oak before ). But with the economy the way...
I don't want to start a holy war:D:D:D But......
one thing that I didn't like about the Omni-Jig was that you can only use 1 bit (I THINK it is a 12degree) with the jig.
I bought the Akeda...
Thanks John... I stand corrected :-)

I'm no expert, but I THINK ambrosia is soft maple that has the brown streaks which are caused by a beetle infestation.
I may be wrong... What do the experts say???
-jj shields
Thanks John....
The "pecan" top colors actually match pretty closely to some of the stripes in the ambrosia maple. (The photos really don't show that :-()

Thanks all for the kind words!!!

Well,
It only took me......... 6 months to finish it :(
But the good news is my wife is talking to me again:D:D:D (that is good thing right??? :D:D:D:D!!)
Here are the details:
This a little different take on a Shaker table.... (not the design but the wood selection)
Here are the details:
Legs are maple... ebonized with India ink (boy was that messy!)
Aprons...
Thanks to all for the info...
Ben... too bad about your foot :-(
Shawn & Curt.... thanks for the tip on the the Thien baffle.... that's new to me. I'll check it out. Are there any good plans...
