If one looks at the 50mm jaw end on one can see the outside is dovetailed while the inside is straight, (not dovetailed) with a small “beak”. I make my tenons straight with a very small cut for the...

I would suggest inserting a small rod in the holes of the live center to lock it from spinning while seating the cone on the live center. I’ve had this happen to me, but after seating the cone well,...
Tried that one time - won’t do it again. As others have said the piece may come loose - mine did, and in the process destroyed lights shower/dust curtains, etc. Luckily, I was not in the line of...
Thanks John. I got mine when I took a class at Arrowmont with Trent. It was (is) very handy for carving, etc., Trent’s style vessels, but now I can see, from your descriptions, more uses for what I...
John, I see you are using the Trent Bosch holder. For what? I have one but forget to use it.
Thanks for bringing this video to my (our) attention. Great video which shows a lot of great people.
I use fish hooks, ones with barbs on the shaft. I cut them just below the first barb, drill a hole just a little smaller than the shaft, and push them in with pliers. The barb makes it quite secure...
Use chuck from a surplus or trashed drill, tap whatever size drill rod is required for the chuck and your Patriot chuck, then you have hopefully successful 3/8 chuck.
Looks like a great solution for a mount. Looks like a really good camera - what is it?
Another way to go - I use a tap from Beale Tools for threading wood for fixtures, etc.
I had the exact scenario with my 3520a. Had to replace the VFD, and Powermatic was not particularly helpful. They will sell you one for at least twice as much as you can get one elsewhere.
Michelle, let me know what casters you have. I've thought about a wheeled stool but can't imagine fighting with the shavings.
Barry, I have the JTtools version which swings down and to the right if you are looking towards the head stock. I do a lot of hollowing by hand and using two different hollowing rigs. The tail...
That's a unique design which looks sturdy, useful, and versatile. I second Roger's suggestion - patent if at all possible.
I also have the JT Tools version and love it. The Robust is a completely different animal, and I know nothing about the Butler. I agree with David that it's the best accessory I've gotten for the...
Scott, many hollow forms were turned before captured bar systems, articulating jigs, lasers, carbide hollowers, etc. That's progress and new technology.
Now that's a good story...
Woodworkers Supply had a few in stock a few weeks ago. I bought eight of them after Al Stirt told me he was out of them.
The bottom line is you get what you pay for. A cheap lathe from HF is exactly that. You'll be replacing it quickly so you're out that investment.
Like most turners I usually do not buy wood. Saying that I live near these guys www.turningblanks.net/ They are super nice and have lots of bowl blanks. I go out there every now and then and will...
I'm not a usual reader of this forum, and just happened to get on (I'm a woodturner). I transfer laser (or photocopy) patterns with either a heat transfer pen or with xylenol. You can get xylenol...
I tried to Google Colbaugh Processing to purchase some unstablized turquoise but was unsuccessful. Anybody have a more specific address? Thanks.
I've not seen this in the responses, but I use the tailstock whenever possible, even when using a chuck. Also, to begin initial shaping and forming a tenon, I always do it between centers, that is,...
