In a pinch, I sometimes use this kind:...
Never seen that one. Ordered one. Thanks,
Blackwings are too soft for me. I use Eagle, Berol and earlier manufacturers, Mikado/Mirado no. 3's and no. 4's. Only once in a while no. 2's.
Never sharpened one that much. On the German ones the point is never all the way to the end. Don’t know about the others.
I just checked and there are pages of them on eBay, including no shortage of NOS ones. I like the single hole ones best.
Multiples permanently mounted solves that problem. I like the old Berols best but the Xactos aren’t bad. I even have replacement cutters for the Berols.
Footing size under the posts still needs to be enough square footage to support the building according to the bearing capacity of the soil. Here they say 2,000 pounds per square foot but I always...
That one stays in its own pocket on my tool belt for when I’m not near one of the numerous crank handle sharpeners. I even have one crank handle for clamping to scaffolding for when I’m up off the...
Cancel that order and order one of these:

I feel like I should chip in for the cost you have in the finish you two have convinced me to stay away from. Many thanks!
I have a general rule of thumb I use on dust collection:
Less than 3hp is wishful thinking.
Sadly, it’s not a joke.
Like my Mother used to say: " It must not have been important".
I'm going to add this probably useless bit of information for about anyone, but just in case it does anyone any good.
I had this problem with one of my timber framing chisels. I work on golf...
Unfortunately, as the population grows so does the half that's below average intelligence.
There are many ready made options. I have always made my own because I like for the plate to be hidden inside the post. I have an easy way to get such things hot dip galvanized though that is only...
I think maybe Artificial Intelligence is not as intelligent as some think it is.
Porch and floor paint used to be good for the purpose, but it's been a long time since it really has been. I'm thinking about trying Durepox.
Me neither. The thought of needing to borrow a tool doesn't compute.
That was a good first post, Dennis!
Thankfully, I don't think they're used for anything any more, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some turn up on old stuff.
The primary use for the T17 screws is trailer skin screws, also sometimes called tamperproof.
Don't try to ever re-use one of those stainless trim screws. They're very soft and the head can...
This made me think of a sign to have made to post in the shop:
In 1980 I lent out a concrete power trowel-haven't seen it since
I lent out a dump trailer. It came back when I went to get it,...
Or T17 TORX for some of the larger ones. Probably like these though, with T10's.
...
Never. …..
