I would use the ‘real stuff’ ….hot hide glue ,it sets much faster than than the “convenient “ bottled stuff made extremely slow by an additive .
Some say it is weaker than real hot hide glue.
Pinch-dogs are handy for things that will be seen on just one side , or that can be puttied and painted. I made some years ago and bought some. They are STAPLES of the shop.
Kevin , thanks. I’m retired now, remember when it was unavailable for a while. The supplier we used then said US gov. wanted it gone.
I’m astounded by the current cost, but might have to use it...
The formaldehyde assured glue consistency and thorough even mix. So my guess is that the new stuff needs some formaldehyde.

Not the most bold USA initiative ….but certainly novel ,easy ,and...
Looks like someone’s creative mail-box. Bringing it home could be the ticket to a few years of of “all expenses paid” Federal housing.
The old and proven way is to get a thick piece of junk steel and drill some holes a little smaller than the dowels. Champher
them a bit to make dowels start easier . Champher the dowels too. I...
I’ve heard of using talcum powder to absorb oil.
