Thanks. The one I have is self leveling, which is wonderful, and has a red line. It's fine in semi-dark areas, but is no good in brighter rooms.

I will absolutely buy redwood when called for. With all the beaurocracy and regulations our taxes fund it most assuredly is responsibly grown and harvested. All lumber is a renewable resource.

Just build everything out of maple. Not figured or spalted or anything crazy. Generic maple is easy to match. :)
