Looks like hickory to me as well.
For sure, only it's not mine but my friends tree. :(
My friends and went harvesting some wood yesterday and found something really cool inside one of the trees. If you look at this pic the hardwood looks like a canopy of a tree and has the trunk to go...
Thank you, I really like this form as well.
These are my last two hollowforms I've done, I really enjoy turning these .
The darker one is splayed sycamore and the other is box elder.

Sorry guys , I'm a dunce, forgot I even made this thread. Sorry to hear about Robbie and hope he is doing ok.
And thanks for the information on Scott , I would have totally forgotten about this...
Hey guys, there is a couple of people I was hoping we're ok and wondering if you all knew what happened to them, one being Scott Heckler, really enjoyed the stuff that he made and would love to see...
Thanks for explaining how it was done, always cool to learn new methods and your piece inspires me to try new things.
Nicely done, not sure how you turned a piece that would fit so nicely around the other piece though, but looks like it did a good job. I've often wondered how some people do something like your piece...
Looks great, never heard of this process though. I'll have to look it up. Nice form also.

Funny thing is I never have any problems with the inside of the bowl.
Thanks for all you guys help, I'll keep working on it.:)
Ok , sounds good. And yes I do have bowls where I was getting bruise marks inside the bowl and as said I sanded and sanded to the point I thought it was some kind of weird grain going through the...
I think I am doing what your talking about but having much success as of keeping it going.
Will try that Pat, thanks
Beautiful beautiful piece.
I'll have to check Richard's DVD, also want to check out Lyle Jamieson dvd.

Here are some pics of my bowl gouge profile, 382124382125382126382127Looking at the second pic and picturing the edge of my desk as the rest, this is about how i present it to the wood working right...
Pretty piece
I did try moving around my tool rest a bit and have my rest about an eighth to a 3/8 away from the wood usually. What grind do you have on your gouge? I would imagine that to would make a difference...
