Thank you for your sympathy and comments. It was a good way to grieve the loss of our son and for the children also.
I have spent the last month in Texas helping my daughter-in-law settle things after my son’s death. She is from Brazil and has a hard time understanding legal forms, but then don’t we all! She asked...
The reason we never get to go into the kitchen at a restaurant! :D
For at least the 5th time, I've reread this thread from the beginning. It's fun to follow, but it's educational to reread. This is beautiful, extraordinary, masterfully done work, Randall. Thanks so...
Richard,
Thanks for the complement. It was fun doing this.
Do you want finished product photos or in process photos? As for the finished location, this was a prototype for some cabinet doors I'm...
It's been about 3 years since I first posted a carving and I just finished this one. I've had this piece of basswood around for a while and decided to put it to use (a prototype for a door panel.)...
cyanoacrylate - (Super Glue) There are many different formulations, but the stuff kicks off (cures) in the presence of a base (high ph). Hot stuff and Zap are formulations for building balsa wood...
Marc,
I'm just an amateur, but I gleaned a lot of information from Doris Fiebig and Mark Yundt's blog site. There is a photo/teaching article called "Greenman" (located under "Mark") on their blog...
I jealous! I haven't seen a fifty in quite a while! ;)
Dan, this is actually a wood carving with excellent painting. There is no money or envelope, just wood. Looks too real, doesn't it? Mr. Rosenthal does a lot of beautiful panitings/carvings similar to...
Beautiful, simply beautiful. It is hard to express the fillings that this sculpture products. Thank you for sharing!
We are using this type of flooring. Anything on wheels causes the flooring to move - creates a 'wave' in front of the wheels. I wouldn't recommend it where you need to move equipment around.
Thank you for the kind remarks. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that likes to see tool marks. They are so much smoother than you could ever get sanding, well, maybe not, but you can't...
1 mm thickness - well, that's what you and Mark always say ... Carve until there's no wood left ;)!
Looking really great and so natural. Flows great.
I know I don't post a lot here, but I'm still learning and don't know enough to be of much help to others. I carved this Celtic Cross for a volunteer at the mission where I work. The wood is Bradford...
The facial features of the clay model look realistic. Are they similar in depth to the rest of the carving? The nose and eyes look great or are my eyes tricking me and you are going to carving deeper?
I'm also a blacksmith by hobby and have made a gouge or two for the fun of it. They didn't turn out to be of craftsman quality, but I had a good time doing it. I think that most folks would rather...
I love it! I showed it to Carol, my wife the pastor. She loved it also. She thinks you should teach theology! You certainly have a way with forms! ;)
You changed things so little, but the result is astounding! Great story - now I've got somethings to run with. Let me work with all this for a while ... and I'll keep everyone informed of the...
Is this what you had in mind, Mark? The wheat is kinda sparse, but that could change.
Thanks for the critique and ideas. I haven't forgotten the layouts you suggested, Mark. I'm going back to the sketch book and try some more things. I need to work through all these layouts and get...
I knew I could count on you, Doris, to help out. A funny thing about bread here in the US - a baker from England told me that our bread is wind and water! Our breads don't have the density of the...
What brand of carving tools are you using, Jason? Some come sharper than others, and some need a little more grit put on them before stropping. It's not knocking the tools, but some brands leave the...
I've posted a photo of a cluster of grapes I tried for the first time. It's practice for a worship table we'll be making later on. The front panel will have a relief carving in it. Most of the table...
Good to see you here, Doris. Your knowledge and skills will be a great value to the forum!
