Oh yeah, I should mention that you can make a coaster/balance bike out of any existing normal bike...just take the pedals and crank arms off it! But then it's not as cool as a homemade one.

I found a set of plans on the net. Google "Crumley" and "wooden bike".
He has semi-detailed plans with a template. I used his template for the body and then figured everything else myself.
His...
John, I agree. They love the bikes and haven't complained about all the lint in the finish!
I learned a lot in the building process. My brother has hinted that his son might need one (well, he's 6...
Hi guys, here's a link to some pics!
http://picasaweb.google.com/Vincerama2/TheGirlsOnTheirNewBikes?feat=directlink
1/2 hardwood plywood, 1/4-20 bolts for everything except screws, which were...
OK! The finished products! I did a terrible job on the finish, the final coat had some voids in it and some drip/runs...but I don't think it matters. Also, I worked on it a bit after only 2 days and...
Heh heh. I don't think a pair of two and half year olds are gonna listen when I tell them to be careful with their new bikes!
I predict having to fix up a lot of scuffs, particularly at the front...
I'll post pics when they're done. They are knock-offs of the "Like-a-Bike" German running bikes.Or in the US, they are like the "Skuut" bike. My wife was talking to her friend about it and she said...
OK, so I went to "West Marine" and picked up some "Epiphany" (I think) varnish that said "Extra UV Protection". The lady warned me that it goes on very clear, in case I wanted some of that warmer...
Hi guys, I'm at the final stages of my wooden balance bikes project (I had to make two for my twins).
I bought some "spar" varnish at Lowes for UV protection. Would normal polyurethane or...
Actually the "chops" is too short by 1/4 inch then...
I think I'll just live with it while I work on a few other "Honeydew" projects and see how much it bugs me. It doesn't seem like it's a...
Hi all! I finally ALMOST finished my new workbench (Tom Caspar's tosrion box workbench) and I mounted my face vise, but I took one wrong measurement so that the front jaw is actually 1/4" shorted...
Hi guys, I'm building some push bikes (ie; bikes with no pedals, you just scoot on them) for my kids. I have the basic design thought out and I bought some spoked wheels. The frame will be 1/2"...
My copy of the book just arrived from Amazon. My kids are 2 now so after some other projects, I'll start working on this. By the time they are old enough to play with them I should have a bunch made!...
Hi all! Just wondering if there is a particular type of point that is recommended for painting kids toys? Toys that MIGHT go into a mouth or obviously get handled alot?
Thanks!
Vince
Actually, I think the toughest part would be finding some wheels!
I had considered making wooden wheels (a simple 12" plywood disk) but riding on the edge of a piece of plywood wouldn't be very...
Has anyone made a wooden "balance bike?"
My wife likes the "Skuut" which is a wooden bike that they sit on and scoot with, so it has no peddles. A scooting trike would work too.
Has anyone made...
Hey, Rockler has those on sale PLUS free shipping this week (code V0707).... according to an email I just got.

Hey guys, I've been looking to make a new workbench and I happened across some unknown wood that is 1/5 inches x 9 inches and about 5 feet long (about 4 pieces) . It's pretty straight and I thought I...
Ah, that is a cool idea, the auxiliarty planer bed! Looks nice and simple too! Thanks!

Thanks! The vise I have is one of these http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=54873&cat=1,41659,41661&ap=1
The instructions never mentioned the technique you used, but it makes complete...
Hi guys. About 3 years ago, while I was up in Canada visiting my family, my brother in law took me to a Lee Valley store and I picked up a nice large vise (which I took home in my luggage - before...
Hi guys, I'm new here! I wouldn't count myself as a "woodworker" just a "Handy Dad" with an uncontrollable urge to buy tools. I think my "shop" is probably better equiped than most DIYers but it's a...
Well, I made a table for my little girls and wood burned "For Chloe and Samantha, Love Dad" on the bottom of it. So far they like it. It's not even close to fancy and is made with not the greatest...
