Ok, so I finally took my first cut tonight.
We have young kids (1yr old and 4yr old) so my free time is pretty limited. I used the waiting time to kind of scan over the machine and try to figure...

I'm not sure if the planetary gear design is typical as I've never really given much thought about how planers are designed, but I think it's a neat way to cut the RPM's down.
Chris,
That's interesting info. Here's a (bad) picture of the drive mechanism. You think it's a 510 model?
BTW, I sent the same picture to Eagle to see if they have a belt as I'd like to have a...
A couple pictures from the listing.260335260336
BTW John, I like that dust/chip shroud. I plan to make one myself.
Thanks guys.
I bought one today. It has a two-knife head and power rollers so I'm guessing it's a 550 model. Motor is 1.5hp Dayton. I wanted it for $400 but he wouldn't budge from $500. Still...
That Tersa cutterhead is 3 or 4 knives, right? If the machine only has 2 knives then it's not Tersa, right?
I've read a lot of older threads on these machines and they seem to be held in pretty high regard. Also seems that parts were scarce back then, I'm sure they're even more scarce now.
I have very...

Not a great picture, but you get the idea.
The picture of the fence rail was taken at the seller's place. Look how it's mounted. They machined a concave surface on the mounts which are part of the...
I'll start a thread on the owwm.org website with pictures documenting the machine. I'll post a link on this thread when it's up.
I can probably get access to a metal shop if I need to make...
I'll get some pictures up. I cleaned and lubed the ways last night and got everything working nice and smooth. Found a couple bearings in the handwheel that need to be replaced and got them on order...
I ended up purchasing the Boice Crane saw.
I work for a company that manufactures 'five axis' CNC grinding centers; and in our applications, surface finish is paramount. Not to toot my own horn,...
Definitely looks like a good buy to me!
Thanks.
Another thing that's making me lean more towards the Ridgid is that it's plug and play. The BC runs pretty well but it's an old machine and will need some work to get everything to my...
Ok makes sense. I have a budget restriction too, of $500, so that pretty much limits my choices. Unless I get really lucky I'm not going to get into a Unisaw or a Powermatic in my budget, especially...
I found a BC table saw in pretty good condition that I'm thinking about purchasing. Not sure of the model number but the motor is mounted inside the cabinet on the trunion, not on the back with the...
Steel City 40030H. It's $500 and comes with a helical head so you don't have to hone knives. I have one and love it.
Hey Brody,
I'm doing a very similar installation as to what you're planning. I'm going to use a Thien tophat for my separator and exhaust outdoors like you plan to do. I'm using 6" diameter ducting...
Got my new catalog today in the mail.
This is the best one I've found so far. It really lays down the pepper. It's refillable too.
...
Thanks for he replies guys.
If I had the floor space I'd probably consider something like that. Looks like a well thought out design. I just don't have the real estate though, and I'd rather...
Hey guys, new member here. I have a relatively small workshop in my basement and want to setup a dust collection system to run one machine at a time. What I have in mind is a 4" hose from the power...
