I like to use plastic freezer boxes. They stack well on shelves with the lids on. I use the pints, but other sizes might be handy also.

Have you considered using a rub collar on your router? Of coarse you would use your router from the top Cut a piece of 1/2" ply, mdf or 3/8 plex large enough to allow plenty of room for your router...
