Not true it's the other way around a deep cut is removing more wood therefore the wood absorbs more heat than a shallow one
Talk to someone who is a wide belt expert, there are a lot of options when it comes to Sanders and it's a science of setting one up to get optimal results.
I work at a place called forest products supply in Maplewood we have a 50" 3-head wide belt sander for $35 min/$70 hr that we can sand for you
It's jatoba 100% not ipe
Look at west systems expensive but works very well
it's kempus or cumaru definitely not ipe
Is it NOS or brand new? either way congrats! I miss the 20" & 36" saws I used in school.

get the powermatic, I regret not going used years ago with my saw (a chinese PM 64) I could have gotten a uni for the money I put in that saw
