I don't use a faceplate very often, but have noticed most of the hat turners around here use the 6" Oneway. It's a very good faceplate.

The desire for threads on the spindle's outboard side is simply to allow for better attachment of accessories; primarily a vacuum pump connection. Not a big deal, but if I were looking to upgrade......
I have a 3520B and really like the lathe. There are a few things I would look for if upgrading:
- Threaded spindle on the outboard side (vacuum pump attachment)
- Hardened spindle
- Hands-free...

What's your process for applying liming and patinating waxes? Do you put down a base coat of shellac or other sealer?
If you have a chainsaw and really want some wood, you'll find a way to cut some blanks out. Pack up and go.
