I think it's a good thing that Paul Sellers uses a lighter mallet for chopping mortices, since he uses the same bench chisels that he uses for making dovetails. Likely saves chipped or broken...
The prices pretty much give the zombie thread away. I would like to be able to buy a LN dovetail saw today for $130. Beginners like myself can just use a hacksaw or a coping saw. We will be using...
I have been experimenting with stropping directly on wood. I use Poplar dowels to use on concave gouges and draw knives. I decided to try softer woods, for flat strops, so I bought a block of...
Sort of a me too to Post #6; I have one of his blades for my M60 block plane, my marking knife is made from a small knife blade, and I have an order in for a Krenovan style plane kit. All have been...
I'm thinking in terms of turning a large diameter pin (3/4"?), including the 1/4" tenons on the end. Then, plane down the flat spot as required.

Dale, do you prefer that we contact you off forum to inquire about purchase, or are you going to offer the planes on the forum as they become available? Is a USPS MO acceptable?
Thanks and 73,...
The last vg fir I have used had very course grain. The vg hemlock is quite fine grained. I prefer the hemlock grain, but the fir is a little more "golden", and a lot more expensive.

In boatbuilding, we use epoxy, and either wood flour or cabosil, or a mixture of both, to match the color to an extent. Both of these fillers make a structural repair, just like a Dutchman. It can...

For another take, Paul Sellers shows how to make a frame (bow) saw for the cost of a blade, and a little lumber from the scrap pile, and several feet of twine:

Some spoon carvers report that soaking the wood in a bucket of water for about 6 days makes it more like green wood. I have tried it with some Alder to good effect. Generally, when you carve green...
Paul Sellers has an extensive set of videos on building a bench from quality 18mm plywood. He rips the plywood with his band saw into strips and laminates the strips into the various components of...
If it's a saw that's made to be sharpened with a file, like most are, it will be around 50 to 52 on the Rockwell scale. Hacksaws should work, with a fine tooth. I use 32 TPI.
I usually use my...
Amazon lists some chisels that look just like the Aldi ones, called "Basement Cr-V Professional Wood Chisels". They are about $16 for the set of 4. I suspect that a factory in Asia somewhere makes...
I have some O1 carving tools from North Bay Forge in Western Washington State. They are hand forged and take a very good edge. I strop often, using Al Oxide on leather. Don't need to visit the...
