Off the planer, 150.
These days, I try to choose my wood carefully and as straight grained as possible. Costs more, takes more up front time. Makes the rest of the process enjoyable.
Good luck with that. I bet it only works on the smallest and split-proniest of woods.
That being said I had no trouble with it on my q4 with the stick tip.
(Edit). Oops I mean stock tip.
You don't need a bandsaw. But it's a very versatile tool for the space it takes up.
If you turning anything from bowls to spindles, a bandsaw is a great 7 iron to the chainsaw's driver and...
Be proud. It's looking great. I rish you continued success.
Where in PA? If you are near Kesey, contact Pete Terbovich at Horizon. They will likely have an ok supply of curly maple. They will likely have an outstanding supply of curly cherry if you want...
Target will match any color from the major paint manufacturers in their EM6500 tinted lacquer. I did my son's bathroom cabinets in a Benjamin Moore blue this way.
I topcoated with EM8000cv with...
It can happen even on a wheel without imperfections like a cbn too.
The issue for me was that repeated grindings with the v arm set at one place caused the bevel to contact imperceptibly lower each time. It’s fine at first when I was well above center.
But...
My SRG doesn't have swept back wings by design. It's never been an issue. I used to sharpen on a v arm until I learned the hard way why this is dangerous. I now sharpen on a flat tool rest.
I have noticed a lot of busking recently. I seem to see a lot of saxophonists though.
Seems like every corner in my town has a CVS or Walgreens and a busking musician.
Too much sax, drugs,...
It's not hard to build. This part was free. The tail stock centers and holds it just fine.
I got a magnetic counter for maybe $20 that works just fine. The magnet embeds in the edge of the disc. ...
Have you tested lacquer on the bare wood, no filler, no shellac, no stain.
It is possible you just have bad lacquer that is not drying.
The soft finish problem can also happen because the...
I’m only doing this with my son so we can learn how pickups work.
I’ve made a wood plate that I will screw the housing to (as you suggest). I got a counter too. Will have to figure out how...
Um, I wouldn't finished in a sealed basement. You should still have a way to vent the fumes. The solvents used in any of these finishes are not SAFE, just not VOLATILE (which is an arbitrary...
Has anyone made a faceplate pickup winder for your lathe? I’m looking for a quick and dirty way to mount, wind, and count the coils.
If it were me: No.6: No need to get the whole bevel to 25. Use 25 as the micro bevel. Over months/years, you'll grind it back completely as you resharpen.
For the No. 7, I'd buy a new blade. ...
I'd skip the seal a cell. I had the best luck with Arm R Seal or any wiping varnish by using semi gloss or satin.
not at ALL. It should not be sloppy. I would contact Festool. I suspect they may help you.
How thick are your pieces? Can you take some photos? It should not be consistently off like this. And 2mm is way too much. Mine are sometimes off but less than 1mm. It’s usually because...
That is highly prized wood there.
I got a ton of flame box elder a few years ago and it is some of the best wood I've turned. It's dramatic (you have awesome coloring there) and there is nothing...
Robert, How are GTechniq or Gyeon applied?
These aren't that cheap; so I'd like to protect them. They're heavy and bulky enough that I can't store them in the garage. I think I just need to invest in covers.
Does anyone have a recommendation for an HVLP sprayable product I can apply to plastic resin chairs? They're brightly colored. I will cover them, but would also like to treat them.
John T? Jim?...
