I'm having a terrible time planing a 1/4 sawn bubinga cabinet top. The wood is very rowed. I've tried a low angle jack and a 65 deg. jack with about the same results. Any ideas would be appreciated....

That' a great look. Very sleek and contemporary.
These drawers were made by laminating the front and then planing flats on the ends that are the same width as the drawer side. Next I cut a regular through dovetail. I finished up by laminating 2...
Here's a photo of my Krenov plane. I used ash for the body, purpleheart for the sole and a Hock iron.
I think Wenge would look great
Bore the stretchers with a forstner bit the same diameter of the leg and then use loose mortise and tenon joinery.

I really like the design and the combination of Jatoba and Maple. What joint did you use between the legs and aprons?
I converted an old Shopsmith into a slot mortiser. I used some 8020 inc. extrusions and linear bearings to make a sliding table. I use end mills for cutters and it works great.

Hi Jerry, Thanks for the info on Sacramento. The wood sources seem pretty slim there. I live south of Eureka. I get most of my hardwoods at Almquist Lumber in Arcata.
Greg
Does anyone have a good source for exotic hardwoods like Wenge in Sacramento Ca ?

I'm designing a piece of furniture that will have a table sawn cove that would follow a curve. Does anybody have any suggestions or experience in doing such a cut?

The best and strongest way to get this joint tight is to get a good fit.
The easiest way is to slide 120 grit sandpaper backed with packing tape through the joint making sure not to round the...
Tom,
I made one from an older Shopsmith. I used linear bearings and rails from
8020 Inc to make a sliding table to mount on the shopsmith table. The quill feed controls the depth of cut, and the...
Hi all,
I want to thank everyone for their much appreciated compliments on my Jatoba blanket chest. I have been an amateur woodworker for about 20 years now. In the past I made mainly small...
Here in the mountains of northern California where I live there are numerous creeks. When we need a bridge in a hurry we use a scrap railroad flatcar.

Here's a photo of the Jatoba chest finished.
I used 4 coats of Sealacell clear. This finish is almost foolproof. I tried
this product after seeing David Marks use it on just about everything.

Thanks for all the kind words. Yes it is my own design and I will post more pictures when it is done. Here's a couple more views for now.

This a new blanket chest of Jatoba and curly Maple that is almost ready for finish. It is a combination of solid wood and shop sawn veneer.
The Jatoba is great to work with and takes a wonderful oil...
I have an older unused Shopsmith and my idea was to convert it to a horizontal slot mortiser. By using the quill feed and the table height adjustment all I would need is a sliding table. Do you think...
Has anybody on SMC used 8020 inc. linear motion bearings and track to make a sliding table. I'm thinking about making a horizontal slot mortiser. Any thoughts on thiswould be appreciated.

I got this same Delta jointer from Amazon about a month ago. The clean up is really easy by using Simple Green cleaner at full strength. About ten paper towels and maybe fifteen minutes and I had a...
I'll try some baby powder to see if that helps. As for the brand of the sleeves I think that they are "other". What brand of sleeves are you using?
Yes I have taken the nut and washer off and have also slid out the steel spindle.
