convert to curves , then break curve apart, select each individual letter and re-size.

Might have tripped a breaker inside the laser ,blown a fuse, the power supply died. Those would be my first guesses, is there any indication that the power supply is working?

Could you use the basic shape tool to create the heart since they give you the exact measurements?
