The only one I use is a Sorby 1-1/4" roughing gouge. Anything smaller and i just use the 3/4" spindle gouge.

Great looking desk. Sometimes figured cherry can be too much, but you chose properly with all the wood selection. Love the hidden drawer.
Great looking piece. Sounds like a lot of fun and work to do it by hand, but would give you insite to how they built them 200 years ago. Maybe when I retire.
Great job. Lucky client. Please post pictures when the island is installed.
I got several samples of bamboo from Plyboo (www.plyboo.com). Some of them are bamboo on a plywood substrate and some are solid bamboo pressed together. They even sent a sample that was end grain...
Terrific work. Great wedding present.
I know that Mary May, professional carver in Charleston, SC, studied under him for a couple of years. You can email her. Her web site is http://www.marymaycarving.com/. I am sure we she would love...
Wow! When I first read the post, I thought that was a great case for a harpsicord. Then I realized you made the works as well. Really great job. Would love to see one in person and hear it played.
Great job of restoration/reconstruction. My Grandfather had one very similar when I was a kid. We used to shell the corn to feed his chickens.
Welcome. I love the art carving. You will find that people on this site are friendly and willing to share info.
Great job, Joel. Really nice carving and finish. Love the video.
You might try Wall Lumber (www.walllumber.com). Not too far from Raleigh.
Great job. That is pretty ambitious for a first veneer project, especially using hide glue.
Great job. Love the wood and finish. Let's see more of your projects.
Nice job. Don't think I have the patience to do something like with all hand tools.
These are great. Very nice desighed that is well executed.
Great work. Love the overall workmanship and the wood grain. More detail pictures if you have them.
Welcome. That is a great body of work. Keep it up and let us see more.
Absolutely gorgeouse piece. Excellent workmanship, nice finish, and great wood. How about some pictures of the inside and WIP?
Great work. I've done a little chip carving, but nothing like this piece. Why only one per year?
I saw most of it. The rocking and rolling at the beginning would have made me nervous. I also got the feeling the professor types didn't know anything about boat building. Took the builders and...
They actually look like chisel that were used by carpenters, back when they did more detailed finishing work. Look too heavy to be normal carving tools.
Great job! Keep it up.
Nice looking chest. I am sure she is proud of it. What wood is it?
Great job. Sometimes it just takes a while until the urge hits you. My wife wants something like this for a "library" when we build our retirement home in a few years.
