I have a 1 1/8" round x 4" long piece of acrylic for a duck call insert. What would be the proper chuck to use to hold that diameter of a piece. Preferably without tailstock support. Thanks

I have a G0766. I'm not happy with the tool rest/ banjo design. And I'm quite positive I get vibration from it when I don't think I would with a tool rest that's designed correctly, in my opinion....
I'm sure this has been a past subject on this forum but the search function didn't yield me the info I was looking for. I have some black walnut with nearly white sapwood that gives a great contrast...
May I ask about your application process of your high gloss tung oil to get such a shiny finish? Thanks
Here's a link to a helpful video on the NRS from Boxmaster Tools. Around the 22 minute mark they show some techniques using a burnishing rod.

Beautiful! Very humbling to see such great work and art.
Thanks for the insight! Very unique and exceptional looking bottoms on those platters!
John, do you do the intricate detail work on the bottom of your bowls after you turn out the inside? Or prior to removing the inside of the bowl? If after, what method do you use to hold the bowl to...
Thanks for the feedback. So if I'm understanding correctly, for that to work effectively, the thick part of the post would need to sit directly on top of the collar.
I appreciate the feedback for sure. I'm just trying to troubleshoot my occasional issue the best I can. I will certainly consider the longer Robust rest.
My fundamental issue is with the height of the 'riser' part of the banjo. It doesn't 'rise' very much, hence the tool rest post has to be longer. I think I will purchase a one way or similar banjo....
I posted this in the Green Monster G0766 group but it was too long and it wasn't accepted. So I'll throw it up here for any G0766 folks.
I've owned a new G0766 for about 6 months and I use it...
I turned a platter from ash that has a significant amount of sapwood compared to the darker heartwood. Since the sapwood is so light, the platter just kind of looks washed out. I usually finish my...
I'm pretty much a newbie myself and I've had 2 come off the lathe. One at 1400 rpm and one at 2200 rpm. Both had cracks or defects I didn't catch and both came apart when they came off. And I would...
Very informative video from Robo's link. I'd like a recommendation on the brand of the correct burnishing rod for use on a HSS neg rake scraper. Thanks.
I appreciate the feedback fellas. Very cool pics Leo!
I obtained some pretty pristine green, black walnut logs. My question is, based on how walnut dries down, would I have a better outcome if i just rough turned the bowls and put them away to season or...
All good points gentlemen! Your responses have given me at least 3 options to check out prior to me strapping the machine to the floor.
I swept the shavings for the first time in awhile from around the base of the lathe. I noticed the whole thing had 'walked' several inches to the left. I've had, what appeared to be 'whole machine...
Yep, thanks guys. Might be a combination of small errors that give me the problem. I did reverse one on a tenon and I had no trouble with it. I appreciate the responses!
Ok guys, thanks for the input. My chuck does look suspect when I turn it at 60rpm. Not running true watching it w the naked eye. I am pretty meticulous on the shape and size of my recess. But I will...
I've turned about 25 bowls in my newfound wood turning hobby. I typically use a faceplate, sometimes a screw chuck to mount the blank and turn the outside. I tend to choose a recess over a tenon and...
Good stuff guys! Yes, It was a lesson well learned. Like someone said, it prob was a combination of factors. I'll definitely be more particular regarding cracks and the speed. Much of my initial...
The bowl split into 3 main pieces. It split from crack to crack. I do see there was less than 3/8" of wood between the bottom of the bowl and the recess. I did notice a vibration between 800-900 rpm...
I'm relatively new to bowl turning and I had a bowl explode off the chuck today and it scared the crap out of me, along with making me pretty gun shy. The blank was ash, approx 13" in diameter once I...
