Being an Aussie I'd probably turn these into natural edge bowls. That way you get to keep the natural 'rawness' of the burl and obtaining a beautiful item at the end. Maybe do something like Terry...
Stunning work Jack, especially the Maple Burl.
Yeah, I have to agree. And a great outcome as well.
Looking forward to seeing it in person Alan. Osage always looks great. Thanks for sharing :p
In Australia we do some pretty banal things with Banksia Pods, probably because they're dime a dozen. I can go to my local supplier and pick a few up for $5 or so. Your take on turning these is...
I'd love to have a timber like walnut readily available here in Aus, I admire the deep chocolatey colours and the contrasting sapwood. You've done justice to this piece, well done :)
Absolutely stunning.
If you're looking strictly at form, you can't got past the Golden Ratio. It's an equation which I use when turning and derives it's formula from 'what's pleasing to the eye'.

Nice! Does Eucalypt grow well over there?
Looks like Redgum which tends to grow in arid areas and close to rivers here in Australia. We use it for firewood as it produces nice coals and has a...
Skews can either make your work look great or alternatively, gouge and destroy that lovely piece of burl you were nearly finished with! I generally look at my skew from the corner of my eye and...
I do love the wood combination, such deep and attractive colours and the grain is astonishing. Pardon my ignorance though, however what is BLM? Some sort of Maple?
-Scott.
Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
For sure, will get some work photographed and uploaded as soon as possible. I've got a few projects on the go involving Redgum, Ancient Kauri, Huon Pine, Red...
Hi All,
Thought I'd introduce myself first. Hi, I'm Scott and live in Melbourne, Australia. Been turning for a few years now and have no particular focus except to enjoy what I'm doing.
