Hi everyone,

Paul, I re-read my post and thought that it may have come across a bit abrupt; no ill meant, and I've edited the post.
Paul, I posted to try and get some advice prior to bending. I haven't tried bending any pieces yet. I would use riven wood if possible, as I've heard before that this works better, but I already have...
It's cut, not rived.
No, the V profile really has to be done prior to bending the stock. I guess I'll just try a couple of test pieces and see how it works.
I'm going to be bending some moulding that is "V" shaped, and was wondering if this can be done without a strap. I don't see how a strap could be used, as this moulding is a "v" in crossection.

Allan: That pic is not mine, Scott posted it as an example of a piece that he used CrystaLac on...
Wayne: The filler is quite darkly colored; without a sealer (the instructions on the can...
Scott,
Thanks for the image, it looks like that filler would'nt be suitable for this project. With a tiger oak antique finish, you really need a contrasted grain...
I just tried the Behlen grian...
Scott,
This project is an antique that I'm refinishing. How would the CrystaLac look on a dark oak, antique-style finish?
Bill,
I've found that to be the case with water-based fillers too, but it doesn't work like with oil-base fillers in my experience. I have tried that...
Hi guys,
I've ben using some Behlen Pore-O-Pac Medium Walnut Oil based grain filler on a recent project. The problem I'm having is that the filler dries a gray color in the pores. Is this user...
I know the concept of french polish, just have never been able to satisfactorily execute it.
Thanks for the advice on the French Polish, I guess I should revisit the issue and try to learn it again.
New problem though: I picked up the piece today to just take a look at it again, and was...
Thanks John for the comment; guess I may need to let it cure longer, and then just work more slowly up the grits, not skipping any steps.
Tom, I wish I could do French Polish; I've just never been...
Thanks for the replies everyone.
The reason for the ~10 coats is that I've never really been able to get that much pore filler to stick in the pores... so I make up for it with shellac. Although...
Hi,
I'm having some troubles with shellac rubbing out. The project I'm working on is quartersawn oak, and has been dyed with aniline dye, grain filled with thinned Timbermate filler, and it now has...
How well would pure tung oil with a coat of minwax paste finishing wax, protect against moisture and sweat?
Hi,
Does anyone have experience/opinions about WATCO Danish Oil, specifically the colored ones? I was thinking about using the Walnut colored one for a project, and would like to know how well it...
Does anyone have tips for staining Luan Mahogany. I plan on staining it a touch darker. Would you recommend gel stain, or liquid stain, or the use of a wood conditioner first to avoid blotchiness?
Jim's idea should work just fine for my project.
Thanks.
I am in need of some custom sized pulleys; I have access to a lathe so making the pulley itself is no problem. The one problem I have run into is how to permanently and tightly fit stop collars (or...
