I was hoping they'd be empirical to match my router plane blades, 45 blades and my mortise chisels.
If you've got the space, you might want to consider a sharpening station. I built one a couple of years ago and its served me well... I use some dowel posts and elastics to hold my stones in place....
I think I paid around $20 - $30 for my 45 on ebay. Its functional but rusty with one cutter. I bought a box of blades for around $50 (ebay) shortly after.
I think if you are looking for a user,...
Here is mine. I can't say I use it much. Its a keen kutter (kk) 9 1/2 I "won" on ebay for I think $5.

I'm not Rick, but I was just doing this last night.
I have a piece of Ribbon Mahogany thats just a big mass of reversing grain. My LV BUS with a 50 Degree blade ( so a 62 Degree angle of attack )...
I would expect that if a block plane where to be bevel down it would require some serious redesigning. As it is now a block plane uses the bevel of the iron to increase the over all angle of attack....

I think its a little bit better than that, but I have no experience with Clifton planes. For what its worth, I found this on-line.
"The bodies of Clifton planes are machined from annealed grey...
Keep in mind that unless your some muscle man, the wheel is spinning much slower so there is a much bigger "fuge" factor. At 3600+ rpm you can make a mess quick, not so much at the rate I crank at....
I think you can sort of do this with the LV model if you remove the toe plate (the bottom part that closes the mouth). I haven't tried it myself, but I think I've seen pictures of it configured this...
The long handle. And I cut on the push stroke. I tried switching the blade so it cut on the pull stroke, but didn't like it that way.
Mostly yes. It does work better that way. Sometimes I get...
Yes, I'm lazy! :p:o:D
Seriously though, I wasn't sure if I needed the extra curved surfaces. I figured I'd use it for a bit an see how I liked it before putting them in. I might put one in for...
I made the same saw as Dom, but I split mine. Its been really solid so far (its over a year old) and I really tighten mine quite a bit. I can't claim to have split it for strength though. The...
Nope, they do not. New tools tend to have a lower special price for a month or so, but after that the price is the price. Price integrity is great, means you can buy with out feeling burned later.
Pretty cool Derek!
$219 is the price for the LV BUS
$199 is the price for the LV LAS
about 25% less
here is mine. I've been using it for a while now and I'm pretty happy with it. When I grind I just have to make sure to put the stones away. Elastics hold everyting in place. It seemed easier...
+1 on this.
Frankly I think you are more likely to make it worse than better.
Hey Paul,
The only real way to answer that is try it out! ;)
cheers
Matt
If the blade does flex, I wouldn't expect it to happen so close to the edge. It would occur higher before the blade is supported by the frog.
Yes, but the thicker iron will be more rigid and should be less likely to flex or chatter...
LOL no arguments there...
Well, I don't think this plane really has any significant resale value, so I wouldn't take that into consideration. I doubt the epoxy would wear faster than the...
hmm, you got me thinking about this and that is never a good thing ;).
To me the chip breaker was always more about adding rigidity to the iron. Most of our BD irons are pretty darn thin so the...
Can you expand on that. I'm not sure how it would impact the usefulness of the plane. You could put some epoxy in the pits and then lap it flat... I've never done it personally, but I've seen...
