Attachment 418125
View of the underside of the top, and..
Attachment 418126
The top of the top. Plywood for the back..
Attachment 418127
5.2 mm thick. Will cut to size, as soon as I know what the sizes will be...need to cut some thin Poplar...
Attachment 418128
To make a couple shelves. Once I locate where they will go....a dado will be milled.
Have 2 planks of Ash brought into the house...after a road trip to buy them....8bf = $10...12 miles each way....4/4 x 6 x 8' planks...will use the best of the two planks to build the door...and then some sort of base....
Stay tuned..
As for the set up on the Stanley 45..
Attachment 418129
Works for me...

Lets see...start time today 1300hrs....end time...1530hrs....sounds about right....T-shirt has threatened to run away...
Clamps came off the top..
Attachment 418176
Cut a design along the front edge. Planed the faces smooth...run a round-over bit around..
Attachment 418177
And set it aside, for now...
Laid out where two shelves need dados made..
Attachment 418178
Knife the walls..
Attachment 418179
saw the walls...
Attachment 418180
Knock most of the waste out, with a hammer and chisel.
Attachment 418181
Clean and level the dado with a dado plane...rinse and repeat...shelves needed cut to size, and planed to size.
Attachment 418182
As one was a tad too thick....and tapered to almost too thin....
Attachment 418183
To get the correct size to cut the plywood panel for the back...I needed to do a full dry fit...
Stay tuned for that..
-
5 Attachment(s)
Dry fit all but the back....so I could size the back panel..
Attachment 418184
And, pre-set all the clamps ( should have just enough?)
Attachment 418185
And make sure the DVDs will fit....
Attachment 418186
Tomorrow, I can do a glue up...add the back panel....then see about a base for this to sit on....and work on a door...
Was a busy day..
Attachment 418187
Between face planing, and dado making....and a bench getting crowded..
Attachment 418188
need to go back and put away a few toys....right now, I am soaked...need to see IF I have enough glue, too.
Stay tuned:D
-
4 Attachment(s)
had enough glue, and enough clamps...for a change..
Attachment 418221
Top was glued and screwed into place...
Attachment 418222
Stanley #5 to trim the edges a smidge on the plywood back panel, before it was nailed in place.
Attachment 418223
Added LONG clamps from mid top to the bottom...made standing this thing up a bit awkward
Attachment 418224
Waiting on glue to dry...again..
let this sit a day...then work on a base, and then build a door...
Stay tuned:D

May get the clamps off this evening. While straightening the bandsawn edge of the plywood panel....brushed a few "whiskers" off the edge with my thumb....one such whisker went into my thumb...as a splinter  Oww....
Need to start on a base, today...maybe. Kind of a wrap-around the bottom of the case thing....shaped a bit to match the top's front edge....and produce feet for this to sit on. maybe a rebate?
Maybe a thin "face frame" up the sides? and shpe the edges of the door to meet up with the sides, and the base?
Single Brain Cell Sketch Up is working on the "details"....
Stay tuned...
-
Clamps came off....got a splinter off a thread from a clamp in my index finger, while hanging the clamp up...hate when the happens.
Have a long enough 1 x 2 for the base....or just make something else. Thinking a door panel, with just narrow bread board ends? Instead of a frame and panel. May haul one of the 1 x 6 x 8' planks to the shop...and see about a panel...maybe a book-match of 2 boards? trim down to cover the door opening...?Add 3/4 x 3/4 ends? Then go around the outside edges with either a round-over, or a cove bit...?
Then decide which side to add the brass hinges to....
Waiting on Moose and Squirrel to deliver the plans....i hear they are being printed out at "Whatsamatter U." Stay tuned..

Clean up....used the vise to hold the case in place on the bench...sides...
Attachment 418420
Bottom...
Attachment 418421
And sanded to top of the top. Marked out the 1 x 2 for the mitersaw..
Attachment 418422
Cut the one 1 x 2 in half, with enough left over to check the fit at the corners
Attachment 418423
Then cut the longer 1 x 2 for across the front of the case. Took two set ups...had to swing the saw around to the other 45 setting for the second cut..
Attachment 418424
Finger clamp acts as a helping hand, and keeps parts from sliding around. Cut out a pattern for the front, and some 90 degree cuts for glue blocks..
Attachment 418425
Saved one of the cut outs, as a pattern for the sides. Once the glue has set a day, I can make the cut outs in the side feet. 2" screws, counter-bored, to attach the foot assembly to the case, may even reinforce the corners with a screw from the side.
When Tuesday gets here ( on the wind?) I can see about a door.....thinking a book-matched slab, with narrow bread-board ends...
Stay tuned..:D

New blade installed on the bandsaw..
Attachment 418460
80", 1/4" width, 6 tpi....and a few of today's cut offs...got a glue block installed..
Attachment 418461
and, after both of the sides were cut to shape..test fit under the case..
Attachment 418462
Details?
Attachment 418463
Once the front is out of the clamps, I'll attach all three to the case....still debating on edge profiles...
Stay tuned

Ok..there will be a pause....the wood splinter had to be dug out of my left thumb, today. Yes, they numbed the thumb...guess what is wearing off about...now.
Secondly...some of the F clamps are getting a bit old, area where the threads are is wearing down a bit....enough that a sliver engaged my right index finger, while I was hanging the clamp up...that wasn't nice. Managed to get THAT metal sliver out...
had run out of glue, too....and needed some 1" long screws...
Kind of need both thumbs to do any work...may take a day off.
Stay tuned...

Ok...bad finger, er...Thumb..:(
Attachment 418520
Drill bit is for counter-bores...
Attachment 418521
All done on the H-F drill press...
Attachment 418522
had to also use it for the pilot holes....the hand drill is to sand away burn marks,,,,worked better in the drill press..
Attachment 418523
Feet install...had a problem with the front piece..
Attachment 418524
Fine tuned the mitered ends a bit....use a pipe clamp to pull things tighter...
Attachment 418525
Add a few screws...run a round over bit and the stand the case up....had one foot taller than the other 3....No. 3 plane leveled things.
Attachment 418526
So this sits on the benchtop, without any rocking going on....corner joints?
Attachment 418527
Thumb had by then started to "thump" again, battery for the camera was getting a bit low...time to stop for the day...
IF this thumb will allow..maybe tomorrow, I can cut the parts for the door....?
Stay tuned....:D

Managed to get the 1 x 6 plank to the shop, somehow...(wasn't easy...)
Attachment 418606
Cut 2 chunks off, about 24" long...
Attachment 418607
That be an Atkins No. 65, 8ppi, 26" long handsaw...was testing it, to see IF it needed to go get sharpened...meh..no rush..
Had an issue with one edge of the plank..
Attachment 418608
As I wanted these two to match up..
Attachment 418609
Jointed the straighter edges, then booked the two bad ones...and ran a few planes..
Attachment 418610
Almost done. After checking for gaps...
Attachment 418611
and fining none, time to do a glue up..
Attachment 418612
Glue, clamps and cauls....will let this sit a day....
Panel is to be squared off after it has been planed smooth, and after I figure out the bread board ends' sizes...
Attachment 418613
Will use my "One Time Speed Square" to guide a small circular saw...may have a couple other uses for it...
Stay tuned :D

Some of the hazards to moving a long plank to the shop?
Attachment 418614
Shop door...after you get past the stove, and under the 7' ceilings...
Attachment 418615
And make sure it is the correct door..
Attachment 418616
And open the door to see this...
Attachment 418617
Circled area is a floor joist, that sits about 5' above the 4th step...right about shoulder height. been know to smack into it a few times....
After making all the way to the shop floor, you have to do a "Left Face!"..
Attachment 418618
And drop the plank to be worked on at the bench..
Attachment 418619
And, use the shop's trash can as a prop..
Attachment 418620
Then, I am ready to go to work...
-
I suppose I should head down there, and see about removing all the clamps?
Maybe after supper?
Stay tuned...

Clamps came off...
Attachment 418740
And the c clamps put away....one end needed trimmed a bit..laid out 2 lines....one a cut line, one for the saw guide..
Attachment 418741
Then set the guide in place, and clamp things down..
Attachment 418742
Then make the cut..
Attachment 418743
The Trim saw?
Attachment 418744
laid out for the other end, allowing for the bread board ends...then started up on flattening the panel, after the ends were trimmed..
Attachment 418747
The plane?
Attachment 418749
Stanley No. 5-1/2, Type 17 Jumbo Jack...got almost done...thought that was enough Cardio for today..closed the shop...working too hard for a Friday
Stay tuned..:D
-
There is a slight problem... in that the panel is a hair too narrow. Seems I took a smidge too much off jointing. Maybe a 1/16" on the sides..each side. I could just add a strip along one edge..meh. Or...make a narrow frame, and make the panel a raised panel? Have to see what I have on hand....and figure a way to groove the narrow frame parts...
Took today off, from the shop. I did replace the front porch light, if that counts as working...
See how tomorrow goes....maybe a 1" square frame, around a raised panel? Hmmm...also need to decide which way the grain patterns will run, which way would look better, up or down..
Stay tuned...( maybe thinking too much?)
