Burl questions
I have recently acquired several Burls and would like to carve something from them but am unsure what would be good to carve and have some questions
1: can burls be carved green without them cracking while drying
2: could resin be used to fill cracks in a Burl
3: what things work well made from burls

Hi Jacob and welcome to the Creek.
Not sure about the cracking problem. Turners often turn green wood and then seal it up in a plastic bag full of alcohol to prevent cracking.
My wife used to make clocks with large pieces of flat sawn burl.
Some drawer faces in my shop were made with burl. It was thick enough to be re-sawn for a book match:

Each burl will have a different look. That is something you will have to decide by looking at the burl and ' seeing ' what is trying to get out. It could be the face of a grizzled old cowboy or that of a tiger about to pounce.

I suggest you experiment with a scrap and see how it works.
