Black Ash
Well, it is now anyway...;)
This some more of the wood I recently acquired from a neighbor. Decided to try something different and used some India ink on it. Took a burner to the line where the bark starts and gave it a kinda "stitched" look.
After the ink got good and dry I put on one light coat of wipe-on poly. Seemed to take pretty good - even after the ink.
The bowl ended up 11" x 4-1/4".

Here's a profile shot before I did the burning:

That's just about the coolest dyed wood piece I think I've ever seen.

Mark, really like this, extremely well done! Contrast is wonderful and the bark kept intact beautifully. Jude

Woah!! OUTSTANDING, Mark!!! For a minute there, I thought I was looking at a photo negative...LOL! Really, that's a mighty fine piece.

What a great idea Mark! The ink really changes everything! Have to agree with Jim in that my first glance was like looking at a negative! Really like the burned stitch effect! Beautiful work!
-
Very nice sir! I like the stitch line especially. Good piece!

I don't normally like coloration, but you made this look GREAT (notwithstanding the fact that it is a nice shape and finish to begin with).
-
Mark, that's outstanding!!!!
