Very well done and funny.I am working on a turned lamp project now too, thanks.
Nice lamp, bigger then mine, same thing happened to me, no kid to blame on or i woulda. Mine was only nine inches tall and it was cut glass generic type, not expensive. I used the brass base and the brass attachment at the top. I used a a cedar block, squared it up and cut it half and flat jointed face and ran it through my router table putting a groove in it. Glued it back together, some fussing keeping the groove lined up b/c it wants to slip. If i had large bit i would have drilled it to. Yours is much nicer then mine plus you used some nice wood, I used scrap so no worrys about lose. That mishap taught me a lot and when i get around to it, i am going to make more.Attachment 266494 Anyhow, here is a pic of mine.
Looks great Carl!
Very nice work and a good video of the process. Does the drill bit tend to wander as you are advancing it?
I was a little concerned about that! It did not wander very much, about maybe 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch off on the two ends. Now enough to really show unless you look for it.
Great idea. I bet you can pick up ugly lamps at yard sales or Goodwill for a lot less than buying lamp hardware. Add new wire and your own turning and you have a beautiful piece you made yourself.
