Thanks Jim, maybe I will seriously ask myself some questions before I pull the trigger on a tool purchase. Foe example, i have been wanting a drum sander i think it is something ill use but its $1400 for the one id like. As i read your message I immediately asked myself how much I'd actually use it. $1400 can buy a lot of tools.
I use the heck out of my table saw
, DeWalt planer, small bandsaw. One tool I got that I thought I'd use a lot but haven't yet is my RBI 26" scrollsaw. I got a real good deal on it. I do have a strong desire to use it. I just haven't. The things that people want me to build don't require it.
Now I'm asking myself do I really need the Foredom tool for carving. I love the idea of having one. That's $350, if I get it will it sit unopened for a year. I'm really going to think and pray about my purchases on tools.
    Great advice thank you.

    Hi Jim

Thanks for the advice on the Emmert. I think I am going to keep it & install it - I have wanted one forever. I can think of at least a half dozen situations off the top of my head that a rotating & tilting vise would be the perfect solution for. Hopefully I will actually have the bench built before June.

I'm not sure what thin qualifies as?
I was thinking of using 1/4-1/2" port orford cedar.
My goal with the rabbets would be more for the baffle...I wish that I'd read your post prior to buying the plane, but suspect that I won't have buyer's remorse.

I'm not much of a woodworker, so appreciate your tips.
    I think I'll use some void-free plywood.

From you thanks for your message. It's super generous of you to offer all those saws! I would be thrilled to have them, only on the condition you let me Send you something in return you're looking for maybe a smaller saw?

My address is 1664 Fisherman Dr., Carlsbad, CA 92011. Please let me know packaging/shipping cost etc. and I'll either send you a check or PayPal whatever is best for you.

The timing of your generous offer is great, I am donating some sauce to the Woodworking program at our local local community college and these will come in very handy.

Thanks again! All the best, Mike

I can try to send some patties but they may not let me ship fresh prepared foods. I'll find a way.
  9. I'm fine with treats from the Islands. My wife has asked for your local version of Jamaican Patties.

FYI- I'm in the first year of a planned reduction of everything I own, 10% per year. Tools, I've got in excess.

    Hello Jim,

I just got the plane, and wow- this is really nice. I have a care package for you, but am still trying to get a few additional items- so far I have a lot of spices from Grenada (the "Spice Isle"), and some from Trinidad. Also some Bay Rum (NOT For drinking- for aftershave), some local hot sauce, and a rum cake (the rum bakes off so it won't make you drunk- don't worry.) Trying to get some locally made coconut oil, and also sending some mahogany. I know you are trying to limit your tool collection, but do you have any use for a Stanley #79 side rabbet plane? Since I got the LN 98 and 99 set, I no longer use the Stanley. This HNT Gordon Plane is really nice, and I can't have a good conscious just trading you some spices and hot sauces!
