Van ... I plan on taking your advice and getting the Laguna 1412 next week when it goes on sale for Black Friday. One thing I didn’t get to ask was about blades cause I know that doesn’t come with a blade. My main use will be cutting bowl blanks and cutting some maybe 12” wide logs into small boards 5/4 or something. I’m a noob in relation to the terms. Would you consider both those”restating”? I also ran across your thread on bandsaw blades but didn’t really see where you recommended for type of saw work. If you don’t mind would you recommend say 3-4 blades for what I plan on using them for? Maybe general size and what it’s made of... I don’t mind spending a little money if I get good results. I know I read the Laguna can be resharrpened. Any advice would be great. Last thing do you set your saw up any special way or just how factory says to? I know I have seen a lot about the “Snodgrass” way. Like I said I’m a noob.

Given what I’d use it for. The new Jet does have 2 ports for dust collection but not sure if that’s a big selling point. I have 220 in my shop for the lathe and that’s my only plug... I could prob hook up another 220 but was leaning towards 110/115 plugin. Sorry if long winded but wanted to pick your brain sincerely you seem to have a lot of experience with Bandsaws. I would appreciate any input you are willing to share.

Van Huskey, I was looking through several threads and you seem to best extremely knowledgeable about bandsaws. I am not. I own a little 9” ryobi one from a big box store. I am primarily into woodturning and would like something to cut and prep blanks. I have a chainsaw and what not but find it more difficult than I’d prefer especially on smaller stuff but that is still too big for my cheap one. I would like to see if you could make a few recommendations. My budget is say $1000 give or take $100. I own a Grizzly G0766 lathe capable of turning 22” bowls. Saying this to say I’m not against getting a grizzly bs if it’s a quality one. I live in SC and saw a fairly new 0457 bs on Craigslist for $900. Not sure if this is too good to pass up. I also am looking at grizzly 17” anniversary saw, the Laguna 1412, Rikon 10-336, and a new Jet 14 something cant recall the number but it’s apparently new. Is there a certain feature I should be looking for?

Hi i have a question about a post of yours regarding bandsaws. I read that you purchased a used Mini max mm20 and would love to know what you paid for it? I am a fellow woodworker and am looking at a lightly used mm20 purchased new in 2006. Seller wants $2800. I know the prices went up on these saws over recent years so it is hard to know what the seller paid for it. Any hell would be much appreciated!

Of all the laws Brandolini's may be the most universally true.

Deep thought for the day:

Your bandsaw weighs more when you leave the spring compressed instead of relieving the tension.
