I take a long piece of paper or poster board, wrap around and mark all the way around with a marker and cut with a jigsaw.

I used to build a lot of picture frames from it and also built a cedar chest. Finished it looks like flat sawn oak other than the cathedrals are...

Last bed I built the plans I used said to drill a hole for a dowel from top to bottom on the side rails so the frame attachment could screw into it...
