About Jacob Chavez

Biography:

Designer, builder, building scientist. I live in Portland, Oregon in our remodeled 1911 home in the heart of historic Sellwood neighborhood.
We've remodeled this small home into a beautuful comfortable home. I'm married going on 13 years to my incredible wife Amanda and have two sons ages 13 and 18. I studied architecture at the University of Oregon, where I earned my bachelors degree in architecture in 2001. I worked for several architects for about 8 years in Reno, Southern Oregon and Portland for about 6 years before transitioning into home performance in 2008. I worked for a few high end contractors before starting my own design build venture in 2012. Since then, I've built some fantastic projects and worked with some fine craftsmen. I've always had an interest in the hands on part of the work since growing up working with my dad in his shop and watching him fabricate parts for his contact lens buisiness as restoring his 1955 Mercedes Gullwing. Naturally, I was drawn to having a shop and learning with my mind and hands, what it takes to create beautiful, useful items. I've been blessed with a wonderful family and a network of architects and friends that see the value of high level design and craft. It's kept me quite busy and has provided well for my family.
