Hi Jim, I live in Portland. I’m not retired yet. Almost of age, though!

I read the mentoring page. I am a newbie, as you will have deduced by now, as you’ve replied to some of my posts.

I would really like a mentoring session of a pretty easy type… I watch you work on any shop project, and I pepper you with questions. Warning: My nickname on a job in 1981 was “50-questions.” Just some Saturday or Sunday for whatever time you would spend.

I’m not sure if you are doing this still, of course. If so, my next two weekends are spoken for, which is unusual for me, a natural recluse.

    Let me know!

Dunno about other user's status. I'm not sure that can be seen on my tablet (Android).

FYI - my PM offers are only for trades. I've plenty O' tools.
I like getting tools into the hands of people who will USE them.

    Re: Convex bevel and waterstones

I use the convex bevel on my bench chisels and plane irons.
It works on my oilstones, and diamond plate.

It digs a trough in my cheapo waterstones, which I now reserve for Japanese irons - prior to finish planning on "show" faces.

Hi Jim, I notice a thread has got closed and moved. I can't read it any longer. Did my post cause trouble?

Jim from Westport, MA here. I had a discussion wit a tall, moostachio'd individual intimately familiar with LN products who must remain namelesse. Let's call him 'Tom'. His retelling of the story is less politic. The suits at Woodcraft pressured LN on price and showed Taiwanese protoypes that had clearly been cast from LN originals, they still had the brand imprinted.

It as a betrayal, no more, no less.

That is a product with the Witherby name and likely nothing to do with the T H Witherby legacy, at least to my knowledge.

It may be someone who had rights to use the name. It may be the trade mark to the name has become public domain.

There is also Witherby Publishing, seems to be mostly maritime titles.

More research would be in order if it is something you have to
