About Robert Galey
- Biography:
- I'm a 61 year old retiree. Classify myself as as perhaps an advanced beginner. I enjoy working with power tools and hand tools. My first significant woodworking project was my solid oak workbench built over a 3-year period starting with two storm-fallen oaks harvested behind my house. First woodworking tool was a chainsaw!
Enjoy making everything from small wooden boxes to a 4-drawer desk with cabriole legs, "Latta" bookshelves, Buchanan greenwood "Democratic Chair", Galbert perch stool, small tables, etc.
Best woodworking school I ever attended was J.D Lohr's "Practical Woodworking". I use stuff I learned in this class every time I walk into my woodworking shop.
Most fun project was a 14-in. bandsaw x 160-in. lumber mill with sliding table. Made my first workbench and several other projects from self-milled lumber. Have milled lumber by hand-saw, Alaskan chainsaw mill, eye-balled with a chainsaw, just to have an appreciation of the milling processes. Makes it REAL hard to through away scrap wood!
