    Clear sailing.
May the road rise to greet you.
  2. Hi Jim- I will do so. I am moving in September permanently. House is sold and closing in a couple of weeks. I am going there next week to secure a temporary spot until I can close on something permanent.

  4. Hi Jim, I have a set of Marples blue handle. Are they O1? I always felt they were. I need to get them out and tune them up.

"I am now 100% on solar power. I got rid of all paper publications for electronic versions. I moved into town and cut my commute in half. I am doing what I can."

Good man. It's the way forward.

Me, I'm on a kick to reduce our single usage plastic trash.

    My kids think I'm crazy.
  7. Hi Jim. It is really evident when you live on a small island where things seem magnified. Our dump is full. It is literally full, but they have no place to build another dump, so they are just piling it up, despite the EPA telling them to shut it down. Coral reefs are dead. I used to marvel at the colors, the life, the vibrancy; now it is all gray with very few fish. The one coral that does well is fire coral. Why? The first thing they tell the tourists is “don’t touch the fire coral- it stings.” So nobody touches it. It has done better than most others. Yesterday I saw an elkhorn coral still thriving, but most of them died in the bleaching when water temps got to 89 degrees and stayed. It killed a lot of coral.

I am now 100% on solar power. I got rid of all paper publications for electronic versions. I moved into town and cut my commute in half. I am doing what I can.

Your off topic post revealed a few things:

The split between acceptance and denial is about 95:1 3% are unconvinced 1% can't be bothered. Those of us that accept our role (and responsibility) in causing the champnge in climate span all ages in the forum.

Those in denial are uniformly over 60, mostly over 70.

The way forward will be by young people pushing the deadweight overboard.

For me, the solution is less: less activity, less stuff and less of me.

Never in my lifetime did I anticipate honeybees or snow (do you remember snow?) would be rarities.

    Kudos on the bench.
The threaded adjustment for the planing stop is clever.

FYI - the SMC interface doesn't notify me of messages in this chain. I've migrated to the World's largest portable phone, running Android.

If my response is delayed, it's only because my memory isn't prompting me... we're dealing with frequent basement flooding and that clears the deck of other concerns.

About Malcolm Schweizer

Basic Information

About Malcolm Schweizer
Biography:
I build wood surfboards, kayaks, and small boats. I teach woodworking on weekends to at-risk youth in a local program. I do have a "real job" that pays the bills! I am mostly a neander woodworker. I just love the sound of a well-honed chisel more than that of a motor. Oh, and I am a sharpening geek too. On the personal side of things, I have the most amazing wife and beautiful daughter. When not woodworking, I am sailing or working on my 200 year old home which I have restored to her original glory.
