I agree that curing the burning is the best solution. That said, I use the Scotch-Brite radial bristle discs and a Dremel tool to sand odd shapes....

Dave, why do I only have access to portions of threads if I am signed in? For example, the thread regarding waterstones is four pages long before I sign in and only two pages after I have signed in? I have seen this consistently.
