Just in case anyone might not go all the way to the end of the other thread, and see what was posted, I thought a new thread would be helpful to those seeking info on this. I looked at the newest spec sheets on the G0766 and G0733 lathes, and they both state a 1” diameter post on the toolrest, not the 25mm post like before. Grizzly must have changed this and we applaud them doing so! This was verified to our group by Scott Ward who measured the hole in his G0766 banjo. As 1.002”. So going forward it looks like there won’t be a need for newer owners to do this modification.
My banjo is still 25mm so not sure if the made the change or not.... ours came off the same shipment o imagine
There was probably a mix of the new spec and old spec units shipped in the same shipment. The factory would get a change order from Grizzly on a certain date, then have to change the tooling for the machining process. Those units already made would not be held and not shipped since that was the spec until the change date. You have a simple fix with a 1" twist drill bit and some cutting oil!!!
But shouldn’t it be a 1” post if that’s what it’s listed at online... I mean I just ordered it on the 3rd
I’d be interested to see how serial numbers correspond to the change ... think mine is 11222ish without walking down to actually look
11222 - wow that's a lot of units since mine is 092.
sorry double post.
Mark, mine is no. 41 on my G0766. On my former G0698 mine was no. 9 .....you are rightover 11,000 units of the G0766 now out there! Wonder why they don’t all visit SMC?
I have no doubt that the exposure we have given the G0766 here on SMC has certainly helped the sales!
A fellow turner at last month's TAW meeting was sitting next to me and overheard me telling Bob Meyers that I have a Grizzly G0766. He tapped me on the shoulder and said he'd just received his a month earlier, and was thrilled. Another PM turner in the club was poo-pooing the Grizzly brand, so I intervened and said that mine was basically as good as it gets. They must have had a bad reputation in the past - hopefully that's been rectified.
