Is there a green monster bandsaw group I'm not finding?

Got the 10 percent in the mail and was thinking about a band saw. hmm you suppose grizzly figures that will happen? lol

Anyway was looking and comparing and the anniversary model is priced nice but by the time I upgrade the guides and and the fence its about the same as one with those items on it.

Do I really need ball bearing guides and bigger fence? Figure to use it to cut green bowl blanks mostly.

Sam, if you want to talk bandsaws here, fire away! I have a Grizzly bandsaw in my shop, and a Jet bandsaw. Other GGMG members are likely to have some bandsaw expertise as well. There has been a good bit of bandsaw conversation on the General Woodworking and Powertool forum here on SMC. We welcome your conversation/questions and pics if you want to post.

Guess I'm just curious if anyone has the anniversary edition 17 inch that's on sale. I have until sunday till the 10 percent off runs out so if I'm going to jump on one I'd better hurry.

Does that saw need upgraded to roller guides and such or would you just run it as is? Aluminum wheels versus steel on the 513x2 as well and the table is a little smaller on the annv compared to the 513x2.

Save my money or just buy the 513x2?

Sam, as mentioned I have a Grizzly 14” G0555LX, and a large 18” Jet. Both are fine saws. If you anticipate cutting lots of turning blanks, you might prefer the larger 513x2. That is a heavy duty saw. The aluminum cast wheels on the 14” anniversary model are ok, but cast iron wheels do put more torque in the cut for thicker wood. My G0555LX has cast iron wheels, and is a fine saw, and with riser block I can cut 12” height. The bigger saw has more hp and that is a plus!

Part 2: [1000 character typing limit on the posts here]. If you have the space and the funds, you won’t regret the bigger saw. I use my G0555LX most of the time. With the riser block kit, it can cut bowl blanks easily. With proper feed rate and a good blade it will cut most of what I want to do. I highly recommend the “Woodturners blade “ from Highland Woodworking. They are especially designed for cutting green wood from logs.

I didn't realize they had an anniv. in 14 inch. Both I was looking at are the 17 inch. anniversary and the 513x2

The 17 inch anniv is aluminum wheels, little smaller table, the fence is base model and those euro guides which is what I'm mostly wondering about. The 17 inch 513x2 has slightly larger table cast iron wheels and cast iron trunnion bigger fence and bearing guides.

So it boils down to buy anniv model and upgrade later or decide if I don't really need to upgrade to all the bells and whistles or just quit waffling and buy the 513x2 and get it over with.

I got the g5013 anv and I did get the resaw fence kit but it is so much more than a 14 inch power wise. I am very happy with it.

Are the euro disc guides working for you, use it for green bowl blanks?
