Guys I got the McNaughton coring system from an old club member but I don't think I can use it on my G0766. The tool post is not tall enough to safely use it and I am sure someone has a solution to use this on something with that much swing. I have used it on a smaller lathe with a 16 inch swing but nothing larger.

I think I need something like this but have not found anything so far.

Making a tool post extension isn't all that hard, if you have access to a metal lathe.

I made one and it wasn't too hard. Rather than weld it, I chose to silver solder it.

I purchased a Rikon Tool Rest Height Extension, part number 70-959 for use on my G0766. It works well for me.

I got the Rikon Tool Rest Height Extension but now I have the other problem, I am too high and I don't see a way to make it lower. If I removed the coring system post and measure just the two pieces on the Rikon extension I am about right but when you add the height of the cutter I am too high.

When I was researching tool post extensions, I found Laguna makes one also. Price is $99.00. That is why I didn't mention it. I'm not sure if this will help. There is no description on the web page. I'm not familiar with coring systems. A couple options would be to cut about a 1/4" off the top, just above the lock lever threads. Not sure if that would be enough. Another option would be to cut it to the correct height and re-tap the extension. You would need a M10-1.5 tap to use the lock lever. If you don't think the wall thickness is adequate you could have a piece of steel welded on, then drill and tap. Just a few quick thoughts. I don't know the stresses involved. I hope this helps. Dave.

McMaster-Carr sells round bar stock in either 25mm or 1 inch diameter. I have purchased both sizes in the past. The minimum length is 3 ft., I believe, but not too expensive. One could make a post of whatever length they need, and it will be shipped to your house.

Mark, how much too high are you? If it isn't much, perhaps you could saw off part of the top of your Rikon extension.

I'm not sure of your tool post length, but they list a 1"×6" post

The Rikon Tool Rest Height Extension not a lot you can take off. The McNaughton tool post I can take about 15/64th off, I need all the smaller diameter at the top to hold the other tools for the McNaughton.

Making a new longer McNaughton tool post would work and might be the best solution if I did not have the Rikon Tool Rest Height Extension.

Proposed solution is take off about 15/64th from the McNaughton tool post on a cut off wheel and see if that will work.
