Classes and Question.

I have really been enjoying my new G0766. While I had a lathe for years I still consider myself a new turner.

I was watching some YouTube videos and ran across Lyle Jamieson and checked out his website. I saw that he started giving classes online using Zoom so I signed up for his bowl class. Today I told his hollow forms class. He is only charging $10 for a 2 hours class. Both the ones I took actually lasted 2 1/2 hours.

I just thought I would pass this on in case any of you are interested. It's always interesting to see how others turn and you can't beat the price.

BTW, I have never done a hollow form and it really looked interesting with his system. Almost looked like cheating but I am sure it's not as easy as it looks. I would be interested in hearing what hollowing system you guys are using. I have some hollowing tools that I got years ago when I took a Trent Bosch class but I always get in trouble with them. So what is everyone else using?

Lyle is a professional turner, and is a good one to learn from. The price sure seems reasonable to me. I've had conversations with Lyle at our Virginia symposiums a couple of times where he was a vendor, and was demo'ing his hollowing rig. Hollow forms are one of the most difficult things to do in wood turning, but worth the effort.

I have both the Monster Articulated hollowing system, the David Ellsworth handheld hollowing tools, and some John Jordan tools which he graciously turned the tang down on to fit my Monster rig.

    Glad you're enjoying the 0766!

    Roger,

I meant to put a link to the upcoming classes:

He sure made the hollow form he did look easy. The laser took out a lot of the guessing. He never uses a chuck. Does everything between centers and then transfers to a faceplate or a faceplate with a glue block on bowls. It makes sense from a safety point of view but I am sticking with my chuck a while longer on bowls. He also only turns green wood. He also doesn't sand the inside of hollow forms but I am sure he makes some pretty smooth cuts.

From what he says a lot of the professionals are going to try the video classes. He really has it perfected with several cameras going. Everyone can see each other also if you want and he welcomes questions. For $10 you need to try one. I told him he was way too cheap but he has had a few classes with 80 people in them. Both the ones I took had less that 10 people.

I'm going to look into this! Seems like quite a bargain! Thanks Harold for the link.
